About Emma Meyers

Emma is a compassionate and approachable dietitian. She created Be Wellness and Family Nutrition with a vision to help her clients and their families live independently with a high level of  nutrition knowledge, skills and capabilities – regardless of disability or functional limitations.

She has worked in government and non-government sectors for people with disability and is now following her passion to care for these clients in a private practice setting under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Emma believes that everybody has the right to optimal heath and nutrition. As an Accredited Practising Dietitian and member of the Dietitians Association of Australia, Emma actively engages in professional development opportunities to ensure she continually provides the best possible nutritional care for her clients. She practises in Newcastle and the Hunter areas.

How we are different

Experience with Disability

Be Wellness and Family Nutrition is a trusted service for people with disability seeking nutrition support under the NDIS. We have worked in the government and non-government sectors in a variety of settings, including residential centres, group homes and private practice. Our experience with disability and complex needs include:

  • Moderate to profound intellectual and/or physical disabilities
  • Cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism
  • Neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and motor neurone disease
  • Neuromuscular conditions such as muscular dystrophy and myopathies
  • Enteral nutrition, or ‘PEG’ feeding
  • Dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) and texture modified diets
  • Acquired/traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury
  • Disabilities involving dementia and mental illness
  • Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD)

Person-Centred Approach

Be Wellness and Family Nutrition is committed to the client’s choice and control. That is why we value your time when making an appointment to discuss specific nutrition, disability and communication needs as well as your goals, how we can help you achieve them and where you would like the service to be delivered. This ensures you are confident in choosing Be Wellness and Family Nutrition as a provider and it gives us a clear understanding of what is required so we can deliver an individualised, person-centred service.

Experience with NDIS

We are familiar with the needs of NDIS and are skilled in communicating with planners, support coordinators and support workers as well as providing appropriate documentation for the NDIS, such as provider support plans and reports.

Experience with Lifetime Care & Support Participants

Be Wellness and Family Nutrition provide dietitian support for Lifetime Care & Support participants with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury (SCI). We are familiar with the complexities of these conditions and work within the phases of the rehabilitation continuum alongside Lifetime Care & Support case managers and other service providers.

Connected with other NDIS Providers

Be Wellness and Family Nutrition have working relationships with a number of other NDIS providers including other dietitians, speech pathologists, occupational therapists and support coordinators. Our experience working within inter- and multi-disciplinary teams mean that your goals are viewed as a collaborative approach involving all the necessary stakeholders.

Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN)

Our Accredited Practising Dietitians can register clients for Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN) as well as prescribe a range of oral nutrition supplements and enteral feeding formulas specific for individual needs.

Convenient Service Delivery

There’s no need to travel to receive expert nutrition and disability support. We know how important it is to be in a comfortable environment to get the most out of our time together. That is why we are a mobile service that travels to any location that is suitable for you within the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Maitland areas in NSW.
